Cincinnati's own Dallas Moore talks to Rick Flynn about The Madison Theater and life with David Allan Coe, Molly Hatchet, The Marshall Tucker Band, and his new album of the same name.

Conducted 2/9/08 just moments before Dallas Moore, and his band, took to The Madison Theater stage to deliver what turned out to be one very electrifying set. Although we did not know it at the time, we figured it would be a totally sold out show. Later on that evening we learned our hypothesis was true. The Dallas Moore Band performed on stage, at The Madison Theater, as the support act for legendary country music singer/songwriter, David Allan Coe.

RICK: Dallas, welcome back into The Madison! DALLAS: Hey Man! Thanks for having us in! RICK: You've played here a lot of times I know. DALLAS: A few yeah, we've played here with Molly Hatchet and we've had a couple of our own shows and this is always a great, great place to play. Esther, and everybody here, always treats us so great and we're glad to be back and especially for our first time here (at The Madison) with David Allan Coe. We travel all around the country with him quite a bit but it's really cool to be able to play, you know, close to my hometown and stuff. I'm real excited. I know the show's going to be packed tonight and it's going to be good. RICK: We're expecting the show to sell out tonight. DALLAS: Yeah, I think so. And, it's also my CD Release Party for my new CD ''Tales From A Road King.'' So, tonight's the first night that's available and we got that going on too. So, it's kind of a ''Double Whammy'' there. I think it's going to be real good. We're looking forward to it man!

RICK: Everybody loves Esther! DALLAS: You gotta love Esther...yes! RICK: And is Molly Hatchet still around? DALLAS: Oh yeah, they're still kickin out! We're doing some stuff with them and Marshall Tucker later on...probably like late spring, early summer. RICK: With Hatchett and Marshall Tucker? DALLAS: Yes, with Molly Hatchett and Marshall Tucker together. We're packaged up on a few shows coming up in the spring or summer. That's what I was told recently. RICK: Well, you'll be working with Marshall Tucker since the death of their former lead guitarist, Toy Caldwell, so they must be back together. DALLAS: Yes. They're still kickin' it--touring and back together. My friend, Doug Gray, is the original vocalist and they just lost their rhythmn guitarist, George McCorkle. He passed away recently. But, they're still putting out great music. They're touring quite a bit and it'll be cool to jam and...just maybe...we can come here. You never know! RICK: Oh, you just never know! DALLAS: But we're sure glad to be here tonight!

RICK: We had The Marshall Tucker band over in Downtown Cincinnati, outdoors, for the ''Chilifest.'' DALLAS: Ah, yeah! RICK: And their lead singer, Doug Gray, said: ''Isn't is just like us, to be playing at the annual Chili Cookoff, and not so much, as even one person, brings us up a bowl of chili!'' DALLAS: (laughing) That sounds like him. RICK: That's Doug, isn't it? DALLAS: That's Doug! He's the best--a Carolina Boy. RICK: Now YOU are a Cincinnati Boy? DALLAS: Well, I grew up in Norwood, Ohio and I live in Cincinnati now but I also lived in Charleston, South Carolina, for a little while. I graduated from Norwood High School and I live in Cincinnati right now-- when we get to be home. We travel quite a lot. RICK: You sure do. Oh, you sure do. We've worked together before, right outside the campus of Miami University, in Oxford. DALLAS: Yeah. I remember that. That was a great club. RICK: May it rest in peace! DALLAS: (laughing) Yeah...Yep! RICK: At any rate, you're familiar with the fact that David Allan Coe's roots also trace back to Ohio? DALLAS: Oh yeah. We do anywhere between fifteen and thirty dates a year, touring with David, all across the country...different places...so, he's helped me out like, a lot, and we really appreciate being here with him tonight. We're gonna raise hell and have a good time! RICK: People think that because of the recent collaboration he did with Dime (the late super-guitarist ''Dimebag Darryl'' from Pantera) that this marks an era for Coe in working with the young players. But you and I both know that's bull. He's been doing that for years. DALLAS: He's been doing that forever but, I'll tell you what, he's...he's one of a kind. They broke the mold when they made David Allan Coe! He's one of a kind and he has sure helped us out a lot and I think he's going to put his boots squarely up everybody's ass tonight and have a good time!

RICK: Oh, I agree with you brother. Tell me what's new with The Dallas Moore Band? DALLAS: Well, we' ve got a new CD that is being released tonight. It's called ''Tales From A Road King.'' RICK: You recorded that where? DALLAS: At the Club Car Studios with my friend Ken Glidewell. RICK: Ken used to be on the air at WEBN-FM. DALLAS: Yeah, ''Mr. K.'' He has a recording studio called Club Car and he and I produced this one and it's 13 new songs. We'll play quite a few of them tonight. We're touring quite a bit. We just got home from Alabama, Florida and New Orleans in the last couple weeks. We just now got home. We're getting geared up, of course, for tonight and pretty much back to our normal schedule--playing just about every night of the week, but Monday, somewhere. We go back on the road...most everything's Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana until March and then we start traveling kinda far away. RICK: So Ken Glidewell produced the album? DALLAS: Along with myself, yes. He and I both did. RICK: You're familiar with the fact that he has his own band? DALLAS: Oh yeah. He's got a couple. He's got ''Big in Iowa'' and he's also playing with a band called ''The Tequila Kings'' now. He's also playing in ''The Wayne Davis Group'' sometimes. He's a busy man...one of my best friends. RICK: What is it about this southwest Ohio area: Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, what we call ''The Tri-State Area'' that brings people out for this Southern Rock? Do you think these people just love Southern Rock?

DALLAS: I think it starts with, uhhh...My Dad used to put Burger Beer in my baby bottle! (laughing) RICK: They were one of Paul Dixon's big sponsors. Do you remember Paul Dixon? Paul Baby? They were one of his sponsors. DALLAS: Yeah. My Dad was a big Burger Beer drinker. RICK: They brewed that in Newport or was that in Covington? DALLAS: I'm not sure. RICK: It was a local beer. DALLAS: I know they used to put it in my baby bottle and that's what probably burnt my eyes! (laughing) RICK: Oh, so that's why your eyes look that way? DALLAS: Probably, yeah. We're on to Blue Ribbon right now! RICK: All right! Well look, my man, thanks alot. DALLAS: Thank you, man. I appreciate it. RICK: Good luck to you tonight. DALLAS: Thanks for having us at The Madison Theater again. RICK: It's good to see you again. DALLAS: You too, bud!
