Rick: What do you think of our beautiful Madison Theater? Welcome on in! Washboard Breezy: The first time we played in the Cincinnati area it was in Covington. It was in a little club, I think its name may have been like. ''Mojo'' or something like that, but it was also a restaurant and something small when we first started out, one of our first gigs outside of Indiana, and I just love Covington. as a city. I think it's a cool place and we're from Indiana. It's the first time playing this theater but it's beautiful and the people are awesome. Rick: We have a hell of a crowd out there, do we not? Washboard Breezy: Yeah! Rick: Would you like to know how many are out there? Washboard Breezy: How many people? Rick: 1,700 Washboard Breezy: 1,700 Rick: Sold out quicker than any show we've had in months. Washboard breezy: Oh, awesome! Rick: It was sold out...well, we had ten tickets left all day today. Washboard Breezy: Oh, wow! Rick: That's how quickly it sold out. Washboard Breezy: Oh, wow! Rick: So...you love our venue? Washboard Breezy: We do. Rick: What do you think about the audience you just played to? Washboard Breezy: Oh, they're awesome. That is an enthusiastic crowd.

Rick: Now, the group is from Indianapolis, Indiana? Washboard Breezy: We're from...The Rev and I live in Nashville, Indiana, which is Southern Indiana, in the hills. I grew up in Indianapolis and The Rev grew up in rural Indiana not too far from Indianapolis. Everything's close to Indianapolis. It's very centered. Rick: You, literally, play a washboard? Washboard Breezy: I play a washboard! Rick: You have thimbles on your hands? Washboard Breezy: I've adapted baseball gloves with thimbles on the end of them. Rick: Now, in the Zydeco acts, which we've also had on stage at The Madison, they play a device that they wear as a vest. What is that called? Washboard Breezy: Those are rugboards. There's a little bit if a difference. A washboard is usually encompassed in wood and its actually like a real washboard. Rick: It's a real washboard? Washboard Breezy: That you wash clothes on...and people still use to wash clothes with. Rick: Yes. Washboard Breezy: I buy most of mine from the Amish so they're ones that are really used. Rick: So yours is the one that is really used and the other one is a ''Rugboard''? Washboard Breezy: A rugboard, yes. Rick: Is that made and produced to be played as an instrument? Washboard Breezy: It's just musical. Rugboards are made just for music. Rick: Some people don't use thimbles for those, do they? Don't some use spoons? Washboard Breezy: They use spoons. Rick: Yes. Washboard Breezy: I've seen some people use guitar pics and what not. I'm the only person I really know now, and there are some people, since I started playing with gloves, that have seen it and thought it was a good idea. But I actually play with gloves with thimbles on the end of it. Rick: How did you get started playing the washboard? Washboard Breezy: Well, I'm married to The Rev and when we first met we both had a love of Country Blues and The Blues and I told him I was interested in playing some percussion instrument and his brother...he played drums...so there wasn't many other options. Rick: His brother, Jayme Peyton, is your drummer and there wasn't many options and you came up with that? Washboard Breezy: So he said: ''We'll get you a washboard''. A couple days later he showed up with a washboard and I've been playing around with it since. Rick: You kind of took naturally to it? Washboard Breezy: Yeah, yeah. Absolutely!

Rick: How would you describe your music for those that weren't in attendance at this sold out show? Washboard Breezy: Well, we call it ''Country Blues'' but not ''Country Blues'' in the terms that people think ''Rural Blues''. So, there's ''City Blues'' and there's ''Rural Blues'' and there's Blues that people play out in the country, where we're from, and there's Blues people play in the city--like Chicago. Those are the two main differences. It's ''Country Blues'' but with an edge. It definitely has a Punk feel to it. Rick: Very good! We're glad you liked our venue. When are you coming back to Greater Cincinnati? Washboard Breezy: Well, we hope to be back in May. It's getting worked out now. Since it's not too far away from us, we try to hit up Cincinnati about three times a year. Rick: Excellent! Well, thank-you for talking to us and you did a tremendous job. Everybody loved you! Washboard Breezy: Well, thank-you!
